It does exactly what it says on the tin. First in a series of sci-fi inspired space images.

Modelled and rendered in Cinema4D, tweaked in Photoshop.

I've always loved space images, whether actual images or well
rendered or draw/painted or manipulated ones. This one is very
cool and I likes it a lot.

Cheers, :slow:

Nice wormhole effect! Again, you'd need to work more on your starfield, besides that maybe had more dept to your wormhole? but I guess thats hard to do with a 3d modeller.

thanks :)
this pic has the old jpeg starfield image that i replaced on the other pic. ill re-render it soon.
what do you mean by depth? im sure its possible to do, cinema4d is a very versatile app.

I mean by depth that your wormhole doesnt have the gaz-cloud effect, its like a piece of paper in which you made an hole, it doesnt have a misty look which in my opinion would be apropriate, but it still looks good like this dont worry :)

oh, yes its not like the deep space nine style of wormhole. ive always envisioned them as looking like water going down a drain rather than something with a raised edge. since nobody has ever seen one i dont suppose it matters hehe

Cinema4D... I'll try this out!
Is hard to make something like that? Don't you know any way to make the same in 3dsm?

I have some projects with wormholes and I really like your one!

you should try it, it was fun to do. it took a lot of trial and error to get the vortex look right, but the model itself is fairly simple. you just draw or generate a curve spline and then extend the top edge so it blends in with the space around it. then run this through a lathe nurbs and you have your basic structure. after that you get a vortex texture, place that over the centre of the wormhole, and add a starfield texture to the rest of the model. the blue haze along the right was just another texture stretched very large and made translucent, and then i put a couple of visible light sources inside the wormhole itself to create the white light and the blue coming out of it. also, make sure the specular light channel is off on all your textures so you dont get a solid look.

i dunno how much of this relates to 3ds, but the principles should be the same :)

I love it! It's very clear and draws the eye. Also stimulates the imagination. Well done.
